About the Alaska Paycheck Calculator

Whether you're moving to Anchorage, comparing an offer in Fairbanks, or running payroll in Juneau, the Alaska Salary Calculator shows exactly what you take home after taxes in 2026.

Alaska is one of nine states with no state income tax, and it has no local income tax either. Your paycheck is reduced by federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and a small 0.5% Alaska unemployment insurance contribution — so most workers keep more of every dollar than they would in the lower 48.

✓

Alaska has no state income tax and no local income tax — the only state-level deduction is a 0.5% unemployment insurance contribution on the first $54,200 of wages.

What Gets Deducted from an Alaska Paycheck?

Alaska is one of the most tax-friendly states for employees. With no state or local income tax, your salary is reduced only by federal obligations and one small state contribution:

1. Federal income tax

Withheld based on your Form W-4, filing status and the 2026 federal brackets. The 2026 standard deduction is $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly.

2. Social Security and Medicare (FICA)

Social Security is 6.2% of wages up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500. Medicare is 1.45% of all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000 ($250,000 for joint filers).

3. Alaska unemployment insurance

Unlike most states, Alaska requires employees to contribute to unemployment insurance: 0.50% on the first $54,200 of wages in 2026, a maximum of $271 a year.

4. Voluntary pre-tax deductions

401(k) or 403(b) contributions, health premiums, HSA and FSA contributions reduce your federal taxable income and raise your take-home pay.

Alaska Employer Payroll Taxes

Employers match Social Security and Medicare, and pay Alaska unemployment insurance on the same $54,200 wage base. For 2026, experienced employers are assigned rates from 1.00% to 5.40% by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, and remit the employee's 0.5% alongside their own contribution each quarter. Federal unemployment tax (FUTA) is 6.0% on the first $7,000 of wages, reduced to an effective 0.6% with the full state credit.

Managing withholding, UI filings and payslips for a growing team is exactly the work Zimyo Payroll automates.
